Rebecca Short - Artistic Director

Reba Short is an actress. This past summer she played the title role in Sylvia at The Theater Project in Brunswick, where she is a member of the professional ensemble. She toured Tuscany in 2002 with a production of Strinberg's "The Mother". Locally, she has acted at the stage at Spring Point, Mad Horse Theatre Company, and here with us at CTM. Reba toured productions of "Stuart Little" and "The Nightengale" to schools all over Maine.

Above all Reba considers herself to be a theatre educator. "I learn something from every character I play. I love to facilitate that process with others. Watching people learn from themselves and each other is the magical process of this collaborative art". She volunteered Peace Corps Morocco 2004-2006, where she started a touring clown troupe and taught theater for development to other volunteers and aid workers.

Reba studied theater at Mount Holyoke College, where she explored physical theater and clowning, mask making techniques, using theater for education and a community forum, as well as traditional Shakespearian actor training.

Reba is excited and honored to step into the role of Artistic Director of The Children's Theatre of Maine. "I hope to serve the Portland community, by producing quality plays with children, for chilldren."

Ray Dumont - Managing Director

Raymond Marc Dumont (Managing Director), has directed and choreographed musical theatre productions all over Southern/Central Maine. He is a proud member of Actors' Equity Association and has performed professionally at numerous regional theatres in the United States. Favorite productions include A Chorus Line, Grand Hotel, Cabaret, and Blood Brothers. Ray spent many joyful summers at Maine State Music Theatre, serving in numerous capacities over a 10 year period.

For three years, Ray was Intern Director at Maine State Music Theatre, working each summer with young theatre professionals in production, performance and administrative concentrations. In 1999, Ray became Managing Director of MSMT, a post he held until 2003. During that time, he had the honor of producing the world premiere of a new version of Frank Leosser's Hans Christian Anderson, with a new book by Maury Yeston, as well as the northern New England Premiere's of Titanic and The Scarlet Pimpernel. Ray also directed Once On This Island at Harpswell Islands School, which was the result of an MSMT theatre residency which included dance workshops for the entire school. It was this production that revealed the impact that theatre can have on children; as performers and as people.

Currently at the University of Southern Maine, Ray has taught Musical Theatre Dance and Beginning/Intermediate Tap, and has choreographed Cabaret, Company and most recently Urinetown. He is currently working with USM Theatre as Theatre Promotions Director.

Ray lives in Portland with his partner Rodney, and their 7 year old son, Ethan.
