Ferdinand would much rather smell the flowers than fight. This story has inspired generations of kids to be themselves and resolve conflicts peacefully. Join us to read "Ferdinand the Bull", and play some improvisational theater games. With Ferdinand's help, we can all learn new ways to express ourselves.
Ferdinand becomes the hero of his story by smelling flowers and NOT getting angry. How can we relate the story of Ferdinand to our culture, school, or friends? With the use of improvisation and skits, we will create a safe space to talk about issues of bullying and teasing. How can we follow Ferdinand's example and be the peaceful hero in our own lives?

Together, we will create a new radical story of Ferdinand the Bull.
How do people use their power? Using the theater techniques of Brazilian director Augusto Boal (click here for the Wikipedia article), Reba Short will lead participants in a series of improvisation acting exercises focusing on the bystander as an agent of change. The actors and the audience both get involved, and test solutions to unfair situations.

This two hour workshop is designed to help actors and citizens alike develop an extraordinary power, a voice in the face of injustice.
